Past Meetings of the WIA:

December 2000

  1. Introduction and WIA business - Hank Dorris
  2. PRESENTATION - Tom Boyle, webmaster for the Virginia Healthcare Financial Management Association, discussed "Desktop Publishing - Creating Web Pages."
Synopsis: An overview demonstration on desktop Publishing (with some handouts) was made. The templates necessary for the creation of a web site were opened, showing MSPUB 2000 options. Then the pages were saved as a website file, previewed in the Library browser, and the HTML code that the Publisher package generated for some individual web pages was examined.
  3. Presentation by Mr. John Ball, Marketing Manager, DreamWorks Web Design, Ltd., "Plug-in free, low bandwidth talking technology." DreamWorks has developed a new type of Internet Content based on a new form of streaming Java applet. The technology (called ReveStream) requires no plug-in software and will operate in any Java enabled Web Browser or e-mail program. The key to this technology is its incredibly advanced compression and streaming ability, this allows full sound interactive movies to be delivered to dial up users with downloads of only seconds as opposed to the minutes of other rich streaming technologies. This is plug-in free for high bandwidth content for the low bandwidth user.
  4. WORKSHOP - Joi Ball and Tony Frey continued their introduction to HTML.
