What is Electronic Mail?

An e-mail address is read from left to right. For example:

johndoe@widgets.com

• "johndoe" is the name of the person sending or receiving the message; this is referred to as the username.
  
  
• "widgets" is part of the domain name of the organization
  
  
• "com" is also part of the domain name and indicates that widgets is a commercial organization.
