CERTIFICATE (DIGITAL CERTIFICATE): digital documents (files) that are provided by a certificate authority to give assurances of a person's identity. They verify that a given public key belongs to a given individual.
DEMILITARIZED ZONE OR DMZ: a term used for a protected network that sits between the Internet and the corporate network.
EXTRANET: a private, secure extension of a corporate intranet that allows organizations to build a persistent network link with customers, vendors, or other business partners.
INTRANET: a network that is contained within an enterprise. An intranet uses TCP/IP, http, and other Internet protocols, and generally appears to be a private version of the Internet.
VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK (VPN): a private data network that makes use of the public telecommunication infrastructure. Privacy is maintained by the use of a tunneling protocol, encryption, and other security procedures.
