FAQ

Q: What is Real Player?

A: Real Player is a software client that allows you to play streaming video and or audio in real time on your computer.

Q: What is "Streaming"?

A: Streaming is a method of sending the audio/video to your computer in "real time" rather than requiring you to download specific files to play from your computer.

1.) Download.

A.) Go to the Realplayer website.-
At Address (or location) type:

www.realaudio.com/

Click on the "Free Real Player 5.0 " icon in the upper left.-
Click on "Real Player" ("Free, plays live and on-demand RealAudio and RealVideo".)-
Fill out the required form (Operating system, name, e-mail, etc.).-
Click on the button that says "Download FREE RealPlayer."

B.) You will then be provided with a selection of sites from which to download. -
Choose the site from which you wish to download (Doesn't make a whole lot of difference).
A "Save As ..." dialog box will pop up.-
Save it to your Desktop.-
The file is called "ra32_50.exe". It is approximately 1.3 Meg. in size.-
When download has completed, you will have a new icon on your desktop called "ra32_50.exe".

2.) Install

Close your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape).-
Double-Click on the "ra32_50.exe" icon on your desktop.-
You will then be greeted with warnings to close all other applications - Click "Next".-
You will then be greeted by the usual Licensing Agreement - Click "Accept".-
It will then ask you for some information (Name, company, and e-mail address) - complete these and click "Next".-
It will then ask you to select your Internet connection speed. NOTE: This will determine the fidelity of the sound you will receive. Select the speed that most closely represents your modem speed and click "Next".-

Widomaker does not use an RA Proxy so take the check mark out of the box and click "Next".-
It will then provide you with a recommended directory that it will install into. If you wish to change this directory, highlight it and change it to the directory that you want to install it into, and click "Next".-
Real Player will then provide you with a list of the browser(s) that it found on your system. If this list is incorrect, this is your chance to change it.
(As necessary, click "Add Browser", - a list will then come up from which you may choose the appropriate browser). -
Upon completion, click "Next".-
If you have multiple browsers on your system, a screen will pop up informing you of which is your default and whether you want to change it or not.-
Upon completion, click "Finish".-
Real Player will then check for previous versions. If it finds one, it will let you know and ask if you want to overwrite it. Select "Yes".-
Real Player will then install on your machine.-
It will inform you when it has installed successfully, click "Okay".
